1953 he manufactured the “First Rolling Mill Stand” together with his friend. He made a good capital after he sold the first machine.

Mr. Kenan Özkan, son of İbrahim Özkan, who was a constructor in Kırşehir, was born in 1928 in Izmir.

1938 when he was just 10 years old, he started to work as a lather apprentice of İsmail Atik.

1951 he became the master constructor in Eritenel Machine Plant.

1955 he founded Defas Demir Plant in Izmir-Çınarlı as a four-partnered enterprise.

1965 he founded Izmir-Karabağlar plant of the same corporation. Besides the construction bars, he produced rebar, profiles and flats.

1972 the four-partnered Defas Demir Plant was liquidated however he was the sole person who kept on going his way.

1973 in Izmir-Buca, he never thought to give up struggling so restarted with two stands rolling mill. This time, he had a reliable partner i.e. his older son S. Mehmet with him. He actualized his first production for the felly industry he sent his son to Middle East Technical University for the BS degree enabling him to have a strong career.

1975 he had his third stand in his plant for the Flat and Rebar construction.

1983 he founded his four-stand- billet mill in Izmir-Buca. During the completion of this rolling mill, his middle son Mustafa who had completed his Mechanical Engineering education in Germany was a great support for his father.

1985 he was very excited since it was the first Angles export to Germany. Meanwhile, his youngest son Uğur completed his education Economics in 9 Eylül University and thus the foundation of commerce was laid.

1991 “Small Size Profile Mill” nr 1 was founded in İzmir-Aliağa. The capacity of this plant tripled that of in Buca.

1993 “Medium Size Profile Mill” nr 2 was founded in İzmir-Aliağa.

1995 “Big Size Profile Mill” nr 3 was founded in İzmir-Aliağa.

1999 60t/h capacity revision of the “Medium Size profile Mill” in full continuous system was started.

2000 he passed away by leaving unforgettable memories for both his family and his country since he achieved to be the leader of a plant which is the most productive and well known industrial organization providing many benefits in economy.

He never liked either money or extravagancy, ostentation… he believed in life, human and affection thoroughly.

He was our beloved father whom we tried to briefly describe as an Industrialist but more than everything, he was successful; he was the leader of all activities we currently carry out.. Mr. Kenan Özkan achieved to go beyond many difficult obstacles during rather a hard period of the country i.e. the depressions of the “Industrialization” process since the beginning of the 1950s because he was always honest and worked a lot. However, he never forgotten his private life and family since he was aware of being a human so he created many colorful pleasures in his life with his people by listening Turkish Classical Music, dinner talks in accompany with the tasteful pleasures of our conventional drink “ rakı”.. a very important point in his life was acting as a father of poor people but he always hide such a mission from everybody but we always knew how a golden heart was hidden inside our father however we kept our silence not to make him shy anymore.. he was full of life because he loved the world created by the God with the soil and animals as well as all other living emotions.

Our father; we promise you not to forget any word you said us as long as we live;

As an industrialist you taught us; “Don’t hesitate to put the work on the lathe it would progress itself”.

As a businessman you taught us; “never start to make plans for the money which has not been earned, yet”

As a human, beloved father and an alive history; “life is very short as much as not to worth to wake up”.

MAY YOU REST IN PEACE, OUR BELOVED GREAT MASTER!! ALL WE SHALL KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR HERITAGE YOU LEFT US WITH ALL YOUR HEART…
